The best example of gaming doing Hollywood brilliantly. They’ve set the bar so high that I don’t know how they’re going to top this game in Part 2. And the final chapter just pulling on all your heartstrings. I screamed so much at the game, for example, when Joel falls at the end of the university chapter and is dying from his wound. ![]() The way the game just goes from 0-60 in the space of ten minutes. The plot is just the icing on the cake for the game. I think my favourite part of Ellie’s character is the interactions she makes with Joel throughout the game, such as asking questions about finding cassettes, to the porn magazines (still scream at that part), to then right at the end of the game seeing giraffes for the first time (the giraffes represent the theme of innocence in these difficult times and there’s a great article which highlights this). The way her character grows from being this annoying brat to a loving character. Therefore Joel’s actions are both right and wrong and this in turn makes his character arc so complex.Įllie’s character is also just incredible. For example, if you found Marlene’s tap recording right at the end you’ll discover that there are similar people like Ellie who they’ve found and operated on and alas no cure has been discovered and they don’t know if Ellie will be the cure they need. In some ways it’s a selfish way thing to do but in other ways you can say he did the right thing. Finally Joel makes a massive sacrifice at the end of the game: he risks humanity finding a cure for the virus that has ravaged the whole world all to save Ellie from dying. But the moment where we truly see Joel care about Ellie is after he wakes up from his accident at the University and rushes to save her from the cannibal (the moment where he’s cradling Ellie in his arms still makes me weep). ![]() Again he starts to open up more after you travel to the suburbs with Henry and Sam who meet their unfortunate deaths as Sam had been bitten by a Clicker and Henry commits suicide. I believe this change of his character starts during the Pittsburgh chapter after Ellie saved his life and then near the end he begins to trust her and gives her a rifle. He became a friendly character, he grew to care for Ellie and he loved her as a daughter. We can say this is because of the death of his daughter Sarah and Ellie reminded him far too much of her but as the game progressed Joel’s whole demeanour changed. ![]() When I first met these character Joel was cold, hard to read and only had one goal in mind which was to deliver Ellie to the Fireflies and had no love nor cared about Ellie. I think it’s best to talk about the main characters, Joel and Ellie, before I talk about why I love the story so much. It goes beyond the expectations of what you’d expect from a game. The Last of Us, to me, is one the best games ever created. Naughty Dog had laid the foundations in the first 15 minutes for a game that would enthral me, scare me, excite me, and which would crush my heart into a million pieces. I first played this game in 2015 and expected it to be your average shooting game with added zombies a la Uncharted but after the prologue I was horribly mistaken. #CRESCENT MOON VILLAGE SIIVAGUNNER PS3#2013 | Naughty Dog | PS3 | Action-Adventureġ8 Points: Points: Points: Points: Point: Boyįirstly, I don’t know where to begin with this game? I could talk about this for hours on end. ![]()
